Department of Mechanical Engineering was started in the year 2000. It offers 4 years undergraduate (B.Tech.) degree course. The annual intake of the UG course is 60. At present more than 240 students are doing there undergraduate degree course with this department. The department comprises of well-qualified faculties, supporting staffs and suitably equipped laboratories. The continuous development of faculty and upgradation of the laboratories makes the department at per with the current day academic and research requirement of global standard. As a result many students has been placed in top national laboratories and opted for higher studies in India and abroad.

Mechanical Engineer is concerned with the design and manufacture of miscellaneous machines and mechanisms. He may also be engaged in structural engineering, in transportation engineering, in automobile industries and in industrial automation. In Birbhum Institute of Engineering & Technology, a student in Mechanical engineering will be given extensive training in machine designs, engineering measurements, metal cutting, computer aided manufacturing, mechatronics, thermal engineering, energy conversion systems etc. He will also have the option of studying robotics, computer aided design etc. Students are encouraged to do innovative and effective final year project works.
